Bat droppings, or guano, have a strong, toxic odor similar to ammonia. You can usually find droppings close to their entry points. Bats leave an oily mark on the surface of their repeated entry point as well. They make a chirping sound in the evening and before dawn, and you may hear them scratching or scurrying in the walls.
Prevention is the most important aspect of bat control; however, if bats do take up shelter in your home, acting quickly is key to successful remediation. Bats are famous for squeezing into the smallest of spaces; even a gap that is half-an-inch wide could be a point of entry. Chimneys, cracks or holes in the siding or soffits, louvered vents with loose screening, separated flashing, and just about any place where materials have shrunk, warped, or moved apart, will invite bats to enter and make themselves at home.
Installation of multiple bat exit doors of various types will allow bats to exit the dwelling while disallowing them from returning again into it. Importantly, any identified entry points must be sealed-up just before this process. After a short while, all of the bats in the dwelling will have exited for good. Once all signs of bat residency are gone, exit doors are at last removed and those final locations where they were placed sealed-up.
The Big Brown Bat, a common inhabitant of human structures, is a known carrier of the rabies virus, which can be transmitted through contact with live or dead bats. In addition to rabies, bats pose another health risk in the form of histoplasmosis, a disease spread through spores in bat feces, or guano. When guano accumulates inside a dwelling and is disturbed, its spores can become airborne and cause histoplasmosis. Given these risks, professional bat removal is essential to safeguard your family’s health.
Our bat removal process includes thoroughly removing soiled insulation, vacuuming fine dust with HEPA filtration, and disinfecting the affected areas with bio-safe, highly effective disinfectants. These procedures ensure that any traces of guano or pathogens are safely eliminated. After decontamination, we repair any damage and replace the removed insulation to fully restore the area. Proper bat removal and decontamination are critical for preventing future health risks and ensuring your home’s safety.
